Location and Dates
Location : SMK Iskandar Shah, Jasin, Melaka.
Date : 18th – 19th June 2011
Participants
A total of 50 participants will be selected to be a part of the programme.
Participants will be selected from a pool of form four students through a vetting process of which those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds but have performed well in their PMR exams and demonstrate high potentials will be given priority. Factors such as poor family background, large family size, single parent and orphans will be taken into account.
a) Two day motivational camp
The participants will undergo a two day motivational camp organized by the committee members and volunteers. Here they will be taught a number of modules such as ‘Having fun with English’, ‘Overcoming your fears’ , ‘Effective studying techniques’, ‘Tips for Interviews and Scholarships’, ‘Options after SPM’ and so on.
Part of the structure of the programme is that the participants will be broken to smaller groups to ensure the best volunteer/ participant ratio. By the end of the camp, each volunteer will have 5 participants who will be under their guidance (mentees) for post-monitoring purposes.
b) Post- monitoring
The participants will be monitored every 6 months in order to assess and track their performance. In addition, they will be given a list of contact details for committee members/volunteers to be contacted for any important questions regarding their choice of courses, methods of applying to universities and so on. This will ensure that there is continuity in the programme.
