Small Changes Ramadhan Fundraiser 2014 ,

Salam and hi to all ,

It's time for our annual Ramadhan Fundraiser again ! And we are hoping to gather more and more funds for the ones in need , especially in this month of Ramadhan.

This year , the funds collected will be given to the Carefugees , just as an introduction on what the Carefugees is all about ,

Carefugees is working with one of the most marginalized people living in poverty, helping each person and family create new and brighter futures for themselves.

Carefugees, as the name suggests, is about providing care and support for the refugee communities heavily saturated in Klang Valley, Malaysia. We don’t give handouts, or believe in short-term fixes. Our mission is simple: we believe in long-term investments that bring about sustainable design solutions and long-lasting change for the better.

Working together with all parties including UNHCR, MSRI, government agencies, non-profit organizations, the business fraternities, along with the local community, is to ensure a better rate of success.

We hope to collect as much funds as possible as,
THE MORE FUNDS COLLECTED , THE MORE FAMILIES ARE SUPPORTED

Do come by to our event on the 12th of July at Ruang@Ss18 ! If you're not available to come , feel free to make donations to the bank account stated in the poster. Much help is appreciated.

Hope to see you then !

A group of young professionals held a motivational course for 40 students in Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang recently
WHILE many of their peers are focused on their careers and enjoying leisure activities, a group of young graduates are carrying out volunteer work.

The Klang Valley-based group, who call themselves Small Changes, go by the motto Small Changes, Big Differences.

They conducted a two-day motivational course for 40 secondary school students in Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang, recently.
The Form Four and Form Five students of SMK Kota Masai 2 are from disadvantaged backgrounds and had done well in the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination.

Project coordinator and Small Changes founder Azri Malek Wan Haron, 25, said they decided on the project because they were concerned about the inequalities in educational opportunities in urban and rural areas.

He said students in rural areas were also disadvantaged by the fact that they had less exposure to role models, such as professionals.

"The aspirations of young people are shaped by their environment," said Azri, a law graduate of Cardiff University in Wales, United Kingdom.

"The son of a doctor is more likely to become one because of the influence of his father, while the son of a farmer is more likely to follow in his father's footsteps because he has no other role model to look up to.

Updates

We would like to firstly thank AS2 CONSULT SDN BHD for their support in sponsoring our programme.

Secondly. There's a change of venue. The 2 days motivational camp will now be at SMK Kota Masai 2, Pasir Gudang, Johor and its THIS WEEKEND! (3 more days to go!)

Majority of us will be leaving this Friday night, around 8pm. We will car-pool to save money and change drivers to save lives. Some will leave early Saturday morning.

Module leaders have all sent summary of their presentations to be compiled into a book for the children.

A friend of our friend sponsored some dictionaries and stationaries - so that's settled, thank you very much!
Volunteers also contributed here and there: books, name tags, printing etc. Such kind-hearted people we have here.

We've also got such generous donors supporting our cause. Money's been pouring on pretty well this final week, alhamdulillah :)

We now have a total of 24 volunteers to the program. (weehooooo!) Thank you sooo much for all of your support.

Now what? Let's rock the weekend!

p/s: We'll be updating the blog and twitter during the program this coming weekend. So, watch this space!
